Professor Heonjae Jeong joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in September 2025. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Korea University and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and previously worked as a postdoctoral appointee at Argonne National Laboratory and as a professor at Gachon University.

His Materials Design and Process Engineering Lab studies computational modeling of energy and semiconductor materials: reaction and degradation mechanisms at battery electrolyte–electrode interfaces, hydrogen energy via ammonia-decomposition catalysts, atomic-scale analysis of semiconductor processes, and AI-driven materials design.
